Shopee image size in 2026 — square 1:1 or portrait 3:4?

Kulshot5 min read
Short answer

Shopee accepts both 1:1 square and 3:4 portrait covers. The minimum is 500 × 500 px, but upload at 1024 × 1024 px for square or 900 × 1200 px for portrait. Files must be JPG or PNG under 2MB, you can add up to 9 images per listing, and the product should fill at least 70% of the cover.

Shopee auto-crops anything that is off-ratio, which is the single most common reason a seller's product ends up with its top or bottom sliced away without them noticing. This page breaks the specs down by placement, then answers the question sellers ask most in 2026: square or portrait?

Square or portrait — how to choose

Choose 1:1 square if you sell across several marketplaces and want one file to cover them all. Square is what Lazada, TikTok Shop and the Facebook/Instagram catalogue use, so one export uploads everywhere.

Choose 3:4 portrait if Shopee is your main channel and you are willing to maintain a second file. A taller cover takes up more of the screen as shoppers scroll search results, so the product appears larger and attracts more taps.

The mistake to avoid is stretching a square file into 3:4. The product ends up distorted. Either compose with headroom when shooting, or crop 3:4 out of a master file large enough to allow it.

Fill at least 70% of the frame

Shopee advises that the product occupy roughly 70% or more of the cover image. The reason is scale: covers are shrunk to thumbnails in search and recommendation feeds. A small product surrounded by empty space becomes unreadable once resized, and that problem is worst for small items like jewellery, where you need to move closer than feels natural.

Frequently asked questions

What is the recommended Shopee image size?

The minimum is 500 × 500 px, but in practice use 1024 × 1024 px for square covers or 900 × 1200 px for a 3:4 portrait cover. Files should be JPG or PNG and stay under 2MB.

How many images can a Shopee listing have?

Up to 9 images per listing, counting the cover. Images placed inside the product description are separate from that limit and use a width of about 1000 px with no maximum length.

Why does Shopee crop the edges of my image?

Because images that are not in a supported ratio are cropped to fit automatically, from the centre outward. Upload a landscape photo and the left and right sides disappear. Frame the shot as a square or 3:4 while shooting to avoid it.
